Dixie Lynn Gunnerson Magers An Elegant, Elect Lady After courageously walking again, having severely breaking her femur in November, Dixie Lynn Magers passed away April 24, 2010 in Murray, Utah at the age of 75 due to incidents of aging. She was born August 20, 1934, in Salt Lake City to Harold Ola Gunnerson and Sarah Charlotte "Mickey" McNeill. In 1989, she graduated from BYU with a BFA in Art and a BA in Art Education. Dixie loved God's Art: Clouds embracing mountains, flowers singing in Spring, thunderstorms' surprising audaciousness, oceans stretching to the horizon, sunsets' evolving hues, and especially all of Our Father in Heaven's children. She saw all with a Godlike perspective, seeing radiance when others saw dimness, seeing hope when others saw only despair, and seeing endless potential when others gave up. She accepted all who came to her and lifted them to a brighter dimension. Dixie was a great teacher, too. She constantly sought knowledge to discover truths and loved to share what she gleaned. As a Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma, she taught of Christ through her words and examples that have and will have an everlasting effect. In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, most of her callings were teaching or leading the youth. Whether being in Primary, Young Women's, Sunday School, or as a Seminary Teacher, she profoundly influenced many life journeys. As a missionary with her husband, Guy, she loved teaching the Gospel as she served in Tonga and on the Sioux Reservation, along with missions involving those incarcerated. She also loved to share her many talents, especially her art, with everyone from little children to those way past the retirement age. Dixie was a bright beacon who opened her arms and welcomed all. She was one who knew the Savior. She knew Godly sorrow and unsurpassed joy. In our hearts there will always be a place of empty longing, yet we celebrate her earthly life and rejoice in knowing she is now home. Many are elated with Dixie's return, including her parents, Harold Ola Gunnerson, Sarah Charlotte "Mickey" McNeill (who died when Dixie was two years old) and Helen Clark; her sister, Norma Clark; her brothers, Gary and Keith Gunnerson; her granddaughter, Jenny White, and Little Grandma, Hazel. Those of us missing Dixie but who look forward to being with her again are her loving and supportive husband, George "Guy" Magers; her children: Sandy (Steve) White, Bert (Carol) Sainsbury, Jan (Karl) Robinson, Nanette (Frank) Okoren, Anita (Eric) Towner, Rob (Callie) Sainsbury; Guy's children: Jeff (Cindy) Magers, Nancy (Rick) Webster, Wendy (Doug) Bartschi; Guy and Dixie's 36 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren with three on the way; her siblings: Russ Clark, Patty (LeRoy) Sandstrom, Dort Gunnerson, Karen (Joel) Harrison, Allan (Vicki) Gunnerson, Lee (Joan) Gunnerson, Sue (Bob) Briggs; numerous nieces and nephews, and endless friends. The Viewing will be held at the Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel at 1007 W. So. Jordan Pkwy. (10600 S.) South Jordan, Utah on Thursday, April 29th from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. The Funeral will be held at the LDS Chapel, 575 E. 13800 S., Draper, Utah, on the following day, Friday, April 30th at 11:00 a.m. with another Viewing from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Dixie had requested that donations be made to the LDS Humanitarian Fund. Happy Father's Day Dave! Thanks for all of the good times and for being so fun. I love you Dad. You are the Best Dad in the world. I am so lucky to be born into your family and for all of the important things you've taught me. I love how I can always just call you up and talk forever about anything and I know I can count on you to be there for me always. I'm so lucky that never in my life did I ever ever have any question about whether or not my dad loved me, more than all the stars in the sky.
